Restaurant
owners also take their part of this ‘go green’ phenomenon. More and more
restaurants around the world serve environmentally friendly foods. Some of the
restaurants even have expanded their eco-consciousness beyond what’s on the
plate. They employ an excellent method to lessen its production effects on
environment, from composting to using recycled materials. Below are 3 world’s
eco friendly restaurants that you should know about.
1. Acorn House (London)
Acorn House is a pioneer of eco-friendly restaurant in London. It claims itself as “set to alter the image of the restaurant industry as well as transform the way in which people eat out” Everything at this restaurant is designed to support sustainable environment: the furniture is made from recycled materials, the kitchen composts or recycles all of its waste, and the electricity uses green source. Acorn House serves seasonal food and purchase only organic ingredients from local supplier. Moreover, they purify the water on site to minimize plastic and glass use. Oh, I wish in Indonesia we had restaurant like this!
Bamboo
Sushi is the first certified sustainable sushi restaurant in the world. Its
commitment to be an eco-friendly restaurant is shown by using power from
renewable energy sources and offering reusable chopsticks and biodegradable
take away containers. Bamboo Sushi also tries to compost and recycle its waste
as possible as it can. What makes this
restaurant unique is that because it promotes sustainable fishing practices.
Really interesting!
3. Akasha Restaurant (Los Angeles)
Akasha
Restaurant, located in the heart of Culver
City, has been designed according to eco friendly and sustainable principles.
The interior, lighting, and furniture are all made of recycled materials.
Akasha offers flavorful food made with organic and natural ingredients. Not only is the menu
eco-friendly, but also all waiters’ uniforms.
Indeed,
all of those three restaurants are not located in our country. But wait… don’t
worry! In Jakarta we have several eco-friendly restaurants too even though the
number of this kind of restaurant is quite small.
Never
Been Better is one of green restaurant in town. Located in Kemang, this
restaurant has really unique design interior because about 65% of the furniture
is made from recycled materials. I came there a week ago with my best
friend. As I step in, I was amazed with the setting of its place. Every element
of the ceilings, floors, seating, and walls has been designed to create a messy
factory atmosphere. It’s really attractive!

What I love
the most about the food is the price. Yeay, they have relatively cheap price.
The food ranges from Rp. 16.000 to Rp. 32.000 and the drinks range from Rp.
10.000 – Rp. 25.000! Really affordable for students who want to have meals and
hang out with friends!
