It
was early in 2012, in March; in which the annual Java Jazz Festival took place! An event I would like to attend
every year. Because I love Jazz! I love Music!
Particularly
this year, everyone was so hyped about Mayer
Hawthorne performing. My friends were all “Aaah! Java Jazz keren banget ada Mayer Hawthorne!”, while frankly,
I didn’t even know how the guy look
like, but of course I didn’t tell. I just nod along… but hey! It’s not that
bad! I know one of his songs. LOL.
It
was the end of the night, and the last performance we intended to see was Mayor Hawthorne’s. When I walked in the
room, he was already playing with his band: The
County. And man oh man; the groove was just irresistible! My friends and I
ran closer to stage and we just started dancing!

His
music was very soulful, it was very groovy, and with some retro touches here
and there in several songs you feel like you’re in the 60s-70s. His music was a
mix of several genres and characters. “But
here he is, new school soul sensation, who has taken the Motown assembly-line
production model and eliminated nearly every element but himself and a few
hired hands,” says his record label’s article on himself.
One
thing for sure, to music was to DANCE for! Like, really DANCE for! And not in a
dancing-like-you’re-in-a-club kind of way, you’ll be intrigued to dance the old
school way!
As
dancing to his music and seeing the entire crowd dancing too, it struck me: How good is Music? How good is the gift of
Music and the ability to dance to it?
Music
really is a wonderful gift. I have been going to many music events and I have
also worked in making several music events for the love of music and its
ability to unite people together to enjoy and celebrate the same thing. It is a
really powerful universal language.
When
the tunes, the groove, and the voices get under your skin, moving in your every
vein, and you started moving from just tapping your feet, or nodding your head,
to really dancing with your whole body is an awesome feeling!
Or
when you’re feeling blue and you need a pick-up, listening to beautiful lyrics
can also help soothes you. Or when you’re really happy and so in love,
listening to songs like Beyonce’s “Love on Top” will just make your smile
wider, gives you chills all over your body, while your cheek blush all read.
Music.
Music. Music.
So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me
- ABBA, “Thank You
For The Music”
